France defeats Argentina in World Cup

Argentina and its star Lionel Messi have been eliminated from the World Cup. France defeated Argentina, 4-3, on Saturday at Kazan Arena in Kazan, Russia.

France moves on to the next round of the World Cup. They will face the winner of the Uruguay vs. Portugal game. This game will kick off at 2 pm today.

France and the winner of the Uruguay vs. Portugal will play on Friday in the quarterfinals.

Argentina has become the first team to score at least three goals. Then lost a World Cup game since the USSR vs. Belgium in 1986 (3-4).

France is undefeated in their last nine World Cup meetings with South American nations since they lost 1-2 against Argentina in the 1978 Tournament. In addition, this was the fifth time Argentina allowed four goals in a World Cup game — the first since losing 4-0 to Germany in the 2010 quarterfinals.

France took a 1-0 lead when Antoine Griezman scored in the 13th minute. He scored on a penalty kick.

Argentina then took a 2-1 lead when the game reached the 48-minute mark. Ángel Di Maria scored to tie the game at one all at the 41st-minute mark.

Gabriel Mercado then gave Argentina the 2-1 lead when he scored at the 48-minute mark.

France rebounded in the next 20 minutes by scoring three goals. Benjamin Pavard scores in the 57-minute mark to tie the game at 2-all.

Kylian Mbappé then scored two goals for the 4-2 lead. He scored his first goal in the 64-minute mark, then scored again in the 68-minute mark.

Sergio Agüero scored in the 90th minute plus three minutes to make the score 4-3.
