According to a Schmidt Peterson Motorsports press release, driver Robert Wickens, who was injured in a scary crash at the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, is being treated for injuries to his lower extremities. He also suffered an injury to his right arm and spine.
Wickens crashed into the catch fence on Turn 2 on Lap nine after being hit by Ryan Hunter-Reay. The Canadian driver was the only one, who was not able to personally get out of his car.
The accident took out several drivers. Yet, all the concern was with Wickens, who was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Allentown, Pennsylvania after the crash.

In addition, Wickens also suffered a pulmonary contusion. The pulmonary contusion is also known as a lung contusion, and it is normally suffered through chest trauma.
This could cause damage to his capillaries, blood, and other fluids accumulate in lung tissue.
Despite being eliminated from the race on Lap 9, he managed to finish the race in the 19th position. He started the race in the sixth position.
Wickens has four podiums this season, including in the previous two races prior to Pocono Raceway. He finished second at Mid-Ohio and third in Toronto.

This is just the third time this season that Wickens was not able to finish a race due to a crash. He also was involved in a crash on lap 171 at Fort Worth.
In addition, he crashed on lap 108 in St. Petersburg to begin the season after being on the pole, his only pole of the season.
