Conor McGregor will have to wait one year until he’s back into the Octagon. He has agreed to a fight with Dustin Poirier.
The fight between McGregor and Poirier will take place on January 23rd, 2021. In addition, McGregor would like the bout to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

McGregor is friends with Jerry Jones, who is the owner of AT&T Stadium. Plus, the Irishman previously added a Dallas Cowboys game with his son at the venue before.
McGregor has a career MMA record of 22-4. He last fought on January 18, 2020, when he defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Irishman won the bout by first-round knockout.
When McGregor defeated Cerrone, it was his first win in the Octagon since November 2016. At Madison Square Garden in New York City, McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez to become a two-time champion at the time.
Before defeating Cerrone, McGregor lost his last two bouts. He lost a boxing match to Floyd Mayweather that featured a promotion by the UFC and The Money Team.
He also lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018. Due to the bad blood that happened after the fight between McGregor and Nurmagomedov’s corner, each fighter was suspended for some time due to their actions.
This would be the second fight between McGregor and Poirier. They previously fought each other at UFC 178 on September 24, 2014, when McGregor won by TKO (Punches).
The Louisiana native will bring his 26-6-1 record into the bout. Poirier won his last bout as he defeated Dan Hooker by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN: Poirier vs. Hooker on June 27, 2020.
Following the bout, Poirier went to the hospital to get his head scanned. He seems to be fine now.
The former interim UFC Lightweight Champion was last defeated by Nurmagomedov in September 2019. Before the Nurmagomedov loss, Poirier was on a four-fight win streak.
Since his loss to McGregor in 2014, Poirier has lost just three times in the past six years. He is 10-2-1 in his last 13 bouts.
Besides losing to McGregor and Nurmagomedov, he lost to Michael Johnson by KO (Punches) on September 17, 2016.
