Chiefs acquire Melvin Ingram III in trade with Steelers

The Kansas City Chiefs have acquired Melvin Ingram III in a trade on Tuesday. The Pittsburgh Steelers received a 2022 sixth-round draft pick.

Ingram III was in his first season with the Steelers. He had signed a one-year deal with the franchise in July.

He was not happy with his playing time before the deal. The Chiefs were interested in signing him before he signed with the Steelers.

The linebacker, who has also played defensive end in his career, joins a struggling Chiefs defense. He hopes to be a boost to a defensive unit that is giving up 27.5 points per game.

The Chiefs have given up 44 points, including 17 points on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants. Kansas City has given up 220 points through eight weeks.

Kansas City has given up the 25th-highest amount of points on the season.

Ingram III is expected to start for the team. He is expected to start next to Anthony Hitchens in the team’s 4-2-5 defensive unit.

He appeared in six games with the Steelers in his short-lived career with the team. He made one start.

His lone start came on September 26th in a 24-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He had three tackles in the game.

In his last game with the Steelers, which came in a 28-20 win over the Seattle Seahawks, he played in 26% of the defensive snaps. He had just 17 defensive snaps in the game.

In the past three games, he played in 60% or less of the Steelers’ defensive snaps. The 60% came in a 27-19 win over the Denver Broncos on October 10th.

Only two games during his short-lived tenure with the team did he play in 80% or more of the defensive snaps. He played in 86% of the defensive snaps in a Week 2 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The following week, he played in 100% of the defensive snaps in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He played in 47 snaps in the game.

Ingram III has had 10 tackles, including two tackles for a loss and six quarterback hits with the Steelers. He also had 1.0 sacks, which came against the Raiders.

He also had a pass deflection.

In his career, which also includes a nine-year stint with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers franchise, he has appeared in 119 games. He made 97 starts.

The 32-year-old has started just eight games out of a possible 13 games the past two seasons.

He has had 370 tackles, including 72 tackles for a loss and 114 quarterback hits. He has 50.0 sacks.

He has three interceptions. He also has 14 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries, including one returned for a touchdown.

He also had one fumble after one of his fumble recoveries.

He has had 29 pass deflections.
