Tate Myre, a 16-year-old, was shot on Tuesday at Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan. According to a change.org petition, he tried to stop the gunman.

“Tate is not just a hero to his fellow students at Oxford high school but a legend, his act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations,” it read.

The petition has nearly 80,000 signatures. The goal is to get 150,000. If it gets enough signatures, the goal is to rename Wildcat Stadium to Tate Myre Stadium.

It is not clear what led Ethan Crumbley to shoot up the school. Myre was a junior, who played running back and linebacker on the team.

“It is with great grief that one of the victims of the tragic event at OHS today was one of our own, Tate Myre,” Oxford Football said on Twitter. “Tate was on varsity since his freshman year and was an honor student. Tate was a great young man with a bright future and beloved by all. You will be missed, Tate.”
