We previously reported that Jim Read Racing had an issue on the starting line during the Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway in Sydney, Australia. Thanks to a video by SpeedPhotography, we now know more.

As the team was preparing to make a pass, crew members were making last-minute changes to the engine. Moments later, there was an explosion.

Jim Read Racing said that five crew members were injured. However, four did not sustain serious injuries.

One crew member did suffer a significant injury.

“Thank you for your messages of concern for everyone that was around the race car on the starting line,” the team said in a statement. “Our crew has been checked by [the] medical staff. Four crew members have been released from [the] hospital and a fifth crew member needs further treatment on his hand and should make a full recovery.

“Thank you to everyone who helped us in this unforeseen situation. We sincerely appreciate it.”
