Race car driver Collete Davis was competing at the Haltech HyperFest presented by Grassroots Motorsports this past weekend at VIRginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia. That’s when things took a horrible turn.

She shared photos on Facebook of her car on fire. It is not clear what caused the fire to start.

“Video is now live going over what happened,” Collette Davis Racing said in a Facebook post. “Over the weekend my C6 drift corvette burst into flames. I’m okay, the car not so much. It’s just heartbreaking, but we’ll come back stronger. I’m very lucky all things considered. Thank you to @dimabrutskiy @duarte.hq @savio.hq @nscardigno @nick350z.hq @c4t8 for rushing to help me & fight the fire. It would’ve been so much worse if they hadn’t.”

The car had just been finished. And one week earlier, she said that she had won her first drifting event in the car.

“It’s a heartbreaking situation,” Davis said in the YouTube video. She also added in the YouTube video caption, “Completely heartbreaking. The brand new C6 Corvette caught on fire while I was drifting this past weekend at Hyperfest. Definitely one of the scariest moments I’ve ever had, and we’re still processing it all.”
