Battle Creek Michigan PD confirm Chris Darnell’s death

According to the Battle Creek, Michigan Police Department, Shockwave Jet Truck driver Chris Darnell has passed away. He was 40.

Darnell was driving Shockwave during the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show at the Battle Creek Executive Airport. The accident happened at approximately 1:10 pm local time.

“Chris Darnell, 40, died today during the air show at the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival,” Battle Creek Police Department said in a Facebook post. “Darnell drives the SHOCKWAVE Jet Truck during the air show; it races over 300 mph down the runway at the Battle Creek Executive Airport, where Field of Flight activities take place. At about 1:10 p.m. today, during Darnell’s performance in the air show, an accident happened that resulted in his death.

“The accident remains under investigation, with no new information available. Battle Creek Fire, Battle Creek Police, and Federal Aviation Administration Officials continue to investigate.”

The Saturday evening activities will go on as scheduled. However, the aerial air show performances will resume on Sunday and Monday.

Darnell has just celebrated his 40th birthday a month ago, according to the Shockwave Facebook page. The team has not commented on their accounts since this tragedy.
