The Baker Mayfield saga has finally ended. He has been wanting out of Cleveland, Ohio since March.
The Cleveland Browns traded their disgruntled quarterback Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday. In exchange, the Browns received a 2024 fifth-round draft pick.
Mayfield was slated to make $18 million this coming season. With this deal, the teams will split the salaries.
This allowed the deal to get done. The Panthers have been talking on and off since around the NFL Draft in April.
Mayfield was forced out of Cleveland when their front office claimed that he was immature. They wanted a mature leader.
The Brownies acquired Deshaun Watson in a blockbuster deal. They also signed him to a five-year deal.
Mayfield will now compete against Sam Darnold for the Panthers’ starting job later this season. The team begins training camp this month.
The coaching staff will get a look at both signal-callers. Then head coach Matt Rhule will make the best decision for the franchise.
