Panthers hire former QB Frank Reich as head coach

A former Carolina Panthers player is now their head coach. Frank Reich has been hired as the team’s new leader. 

The sides agreed to terms on Thursday. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Reich has previous head coaching experience, as he led the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 through 2022. He was fired by the Colts on November 7th, 2022

As the Colts’ head coach, he went 40-33-1. He was dismissed with a 3-5-1 record this past season. 

When he was the Colts’ leader, he guided the team to three winning seasons. This included two playoff appearances in 2018 and 2020.

In 2018, the Colts won their Wild Card Game 21-7 against the Houston Texans. The following weekend, they were defeated 31-13 by the Kansas City Chiefs. 

Then, in 2020, they were defeated by the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card Game. 

As a former player, Reich played for the team in 1995. He threw the first touchdown pass in team history.

After playing in the NFL with the Bills, Panthers, New York Jets, and the Detroit Lions, he went into coaching in 2006 with the Colts. As he progressed in the coaching field, he served as an offensive coordinator first with the San Diego Chargers and then with the Philadelphia Eagles.

After helping the Eagles to their first Super Bowl in team history, he was hired as the Colts’ head coach in February 2018.
