Milan Dragway freak accident causes Keith Hallett death

An accident happened at Milan Dragway on Saturday that resulted in the death of a man. The incident happened at approximately 5:30 pm local time in Milan, Michigan.

Due to the incident, racing was stopped for the evening.

Nicholas Tilley was behind the wheel of a Funny Car. As the car was backing up, the car experienced a mechanical malfunction.

This caused Tilley’s vehicle to have a sudden acceleration, according to local police. When this happened, Tilley no longer had control over the vehicle.

Keith Hallett was standing behind the vehicle when he was struck by the uncontrolled Tilley Funny Car. The Funny Car then hit another car, which was in the staging area, police said .

The 78 year old Hallett was transported to a nearby hospital. He succumbed to his injuries that happened from this incident.

“The crash remains under investigation by Sergeant Brian Quinn and Deputy Sheriffs Alec Preadmore, Steven Warren and Jon Cregar of the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division,” Sheriff Troy Goodnough said in a statement. “Anyone with information is asked to please call 734-240-7756.”

At this time, it is not clear if anyone else was injured, according to WTOL11.

This event was part of the Detroit Dragway Reunion weekend that was held at the facility.

WTOL11 is reporting that the NHRA and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
