Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders has gone public with a health scare. He did not go into details about incident.
However, he indicated that it was in regards to his heart.
Sanders is one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. He played for the Lions from 1989 through 1998.
“Over Father’s Day weekend, I experienced a health scare related to my heart,” Sanders wrote in a statement posted on social media. “It was unexpected and served as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant about our physical well-being, even when we are feeling fine.
“I am grateful for the amazing doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals for providing me with needed care. My family and I are thankful for your prayers and support during this time.”
It appears like Sanders will need some time to heal and recover.
“Per my doctors’ recommendation, I am taking this opportunity to prioritize my health and well-being,” he said. “I appreciate your understanding and continued support.”
