In the off-season, Cam Ward decided to declare for the NFL Draft. A few weeks later, he decided to return for another chance to play college football.
Now, the Miami (Florida) Hurricanes quarterback is a Heisman Trophy finalist. He was announced as a Heisman Trophy finalist on Monday Night Countdown by former Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Also receiving invitations were Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty, and Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel. The winner will be announced on Saturday night in New York City.
He is looking to become the third Heisman Trophy winner at the Miami, Florida-based school. However, no one from the school has won since the 1992 season.
Vinny Testaverde won the award in 1986. Gino Torretta also received the award in 1992.
Torretta has been in attendance in the previous years. He may be in the Big Apple on Saturday night, as well, on the stage when the winner is announced.
Ward — who was named the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year — has gone 293 of 435 for 4,123 passing yards during his senior year. He has also had 36 touchdown passes and seven interceptions.
