The New York Jets hired Darren Mougey as their new General Manager on Saturday. He comes to the Jets after working in the Denver Broncos front office.
The 39-year-old was the assistant General Manager with the Broncos. He had been in that role since the 2022 season.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he played a role in the Broncos return to the playoffs this past season. Denver appeared in their first playoff game before losing to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round.
It was the Broncos first playoff game since the 2016 season.
He is replacing Joe Douglas and Phil Savage, who served in the role of the Jets GM for the 2024 season. Douglas began the season in the role before being fired.
Savage took over on an interim basis to finish out the season.
Douglas had been in the role since the 2019 season.
Mougey will work with first year head coach Aaron Glenn, who was recently hired by the team. Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum and his agency helped the Jets hire their new head coach, which turned out to be Glenn.
Mougey had been with the Broncos since the 2012 season. He began his tenure with the team as a scouting intern.
During his tenure, the Broncos went to two Super Bowl. However, they won just one as they won Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers.
Mougey is the Jets ninth GM since the 2000 season. Bill Parcells was their head coach/GM from 1997 through 2000.
Terry Bradshaw served as their GM from 2001 through 2005. Tannenbaum was their GM from 2006 through 2012.
John Idzik was their GM from 2013 through 2014. Mike Maccagnan was in the role from 2015 through 2018.
Douglas took over in 2019 before he got fired. Savage briefly held the role for a few months as the interim GM.
