Union advance in Open Cup with Round of 16 win over Riverhounds SC

Chester, Pa. – The Philadelphia Union won the first matchup with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. The Union won 4-1 over the Riverhounds SC during the Round of 16 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Union are undefeated in the Round of 16 at home, as they improved to 5-0. They are 6-2 all-time in the Round of 16.

Plus, this is the sixth time in franchise history that the team has reached the quarterfinals in this tournament. The last time was in 2018. The others were in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016.

With the win, the Union is not expected to play their next round in this tournament until early July. The team is currently undefeated in their last eight competitions dating back to April 19th.

The Union got on the board first when Bruno Damiani scored in the 14th minute. Damiani scored on a penalty kick.

Right before halftime, the Union went up 2-0. Indiana Vassilev scored in stoppage time at 45+1.

In the second half, Danleg Jean Jacques scored to put the Union up 3-0. Jean Jacques scored in the 54th minute.

The Riverhounds SC got on the board in the 65th minute. Jorge Garcia scored their lone goal.

The Union then added a fourth goal in the 86th minute. Jovan Lukić scored the fourth goal.

There were three yellow cards given out in the game. Riverhounds SC received the first yellow card as Luke Biasi received a yellow card in the 12th minute.

The Union had the other two yellow cards. Jakob Glesnes picked up a yellow card in the 22nd minute.

Jean Jacques also received a yellow card in the 65th minute.
