Baltimore, MD – Ryan Hunter-Reay did not have the same luck as he did last year at the Grand Prix of Baltimore.
Hunter-Reay won last year’s race in the rain en route to his championship. But in today’s third annual Grand Prix of Baltimore, Hunter-Reay did not finish the race.
His championship hopes may have been diminished with this incident, as well. He had 417 points coming into the race, and was trailing points leader Helio Castroneves by 62 points, as Castroneves leads with 479 points coming into the race.

Hunter-Reay got stuck on the track and was not able to move his car as his car had a mechanical issue. His teammate, Marco Andretti did the same exact thing on Friday.
When Hunter-Reay was getting out of his car, he was clearly frustrated. He knew what was at stake with just three races left of the season.
He did; however, complete 42 laps in the race. And will not return to the track.

He will finish 20th in the race unless Dario Franchitti can miraculously return to the track in the final 30 laps. But he is presently in the pits and it doesn’t look like he will return.
After Hunter-Reay and Franchitti, Luca Filipi, James Jakes, and Takuma Sato make up the final five, they are all out of the race.
This was just the fourth time this season that Hunter-Reay did not finish a race. In the second Exhibition Place race in Toronto, Canada, he was involved in a crash on Lap 83.
Also, at the Pocono Raceway race, he was parked on Lap 121 of 160.
In two of the first three races this season, he did not finish then. He crashed on Lap 49 of the race at Long Beach Street Circuit.
He experienced a throttle issue on Lap 79 of the season-opening race at the Streets of St. Petersburg.
