According to reports, the Cleveland Browns know where they are leaning with their top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The reports suggest that the team is favoring former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield.
The team reportedly likes Mayfield over former Wyoming Cowboys quarterback Josh Allen, who is expected to be a top pick in the draft, as well.
One year ago, the Browns used the top pick on stud defensive end Myles Garrett. The team hopes that their quarterback draft pick will be a figure for the years to come.
Whoever is drafted between Mayfield and Allen would be the Browns’ fifth No. 1 overall pick. Outside of Garrett, Courtney Brown was the top pick in 2000. Tim Couch was the top pick by the team in the 1999 NFL Draft.
Bobby Garrett was the team’s first No. 1 overall pick in 1954.
This past college football season, Mayfield went 285 of 404 for 4,627 yards. He had 43 touchdown passes and six interceptions in 14 starts.
The 4,627 yards were the most that he had in a college season with the Sooners and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. With his stellar season, Mayfield won the prestigious Heisman Trophy, while also winning the Maxwell Award and was selected as an All-American.
Allen went 152 of 270 for 1,812 yards for the Cowboys. He also had 16 touchdown passes and six interceptions in 11 starts.
