Dan Blume has resigned from his position as the Thiel Tomcats head football coach. He spent three seasons in the role, going 5-25.
The team went 0-10 this season, including 0-9 in conference play. The team lost four games at home and the remaining six games on the road.
The Tomcats did not score more than 21 points in a game this season. That came in a 24-21 loss to the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on September 29th at Alumni Stadium in Greenville, Pennsylvania.

“I would like to thank Coach Blume for leading our football program the last three years, and I wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” Athletic Director Amy Schafer said.
In 2017, the team went 1-9, including 1-7 in conference play. They lost the final seven games of the season.
Their lone win came against the Bethany Bisons in Bethany, West Virginia when they won 28-13 on September 16th, 2017. Including those seven losses with the ten losses in 2018, the Tomcats have lost 17 straight games.
The 2016 season saw the team go 4-6 in Blume’s first season with the team. They were also 3-5 in conference play.
The Tomcats ended the season on a one-game win streak, as they won 47-41 over the Grove City Wolverines in Grove City, Pennsylvania on November 12th, 2016.

Blume came to Thiel after spending four seasons with Division II’s Mercyhurst Lakers. He was the team’s linebackers coach during those seasons and also served as special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator in the final two seasons.
He also spent time with Division III’s Trinity Bantams, where he coached the defensive line for two seasons. He was a defensive assistant with FCS’s Villanova Wildcats in 2008 and 2009.
The Wildcats won the FCS National Championship in 2009 during his tenure. He began his career with the Mount Union Purple Raiders, the Division III powerhouse, where he began as the assistant linebackers coach in 2006.
He was a linebacker on the team from 2002 through 2005. During his playing career, he won NCAA Division III National Championships in 2002 and 2005.
