Appalachian State hires Ken Dorsey as Offensive Coordinator

The Appalachian State Mountaineers have hired its new Offensive Coordinator. The team hired Ken Dorsey for the role, according to The Stadium’s Brett McMurphy.

Dorsey returns to college football with this move. He was serving as the Florida International University Panthers Assistant Athletic Director after being hired in March 2018.

“I’m proud to announce the next addition to our coaching staff,” Mountaineers head coach Eli Drinkwitz said in a tweet. “Coach Dorsey brings a Championship pedigree as both a player and coach to the Rock. Ken and his family will be instrumental in continuing our climb!”

He began his role with the Panthers in April 2018. Before accepting the FIU Athletic Department position, he was the Carolina Panthers Quarterbacks Coach from 2013 through 2017.

He was then fired by the team in January. He also served as the Panthers Pro Scout in 2011 and 2012.

The 37-year-old Orinda, California native was previously a third-round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2003 NFL Draft. He played three seasons with the 49ers.

After playing for the 49ers, he played three seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Following a season out of football, he signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League on May 26th, 2010.

He announced his retirement from his playing career on May 3rd, 2011.
