The Virginia Cavaliers shut out the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Belk Bowl in Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers won 28-0 over the Gamecocks at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Cavaliers improved to 8-5 on the season. The win snapped their two-game losing streak.
Virginia has improved to 8-12 all-time in Bowl games. This win snapped their three-game Bowl losing streak.
This is the Cavaliers first Bowl win since 2005. They defeated the 34-31 over the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Music City Bowl on December 30th, 2005 at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Gamecocks fell to 7-6 on the season. They ended their season on a one-game losing streak.
South Carolina fell to 9-14 all-time in Bowl games. The loss snapped their one-game Bowl win streak.
This is the Cavaliers first shutout in a Bowl game in program history, dating back to their first Bowl appearance at the Peach Bowl on December 31st, 1984.
In addition, this was the first-time the Gamecocks were shutout in their Bowl game history. Their history goes back to the 1945 Gator Bowl.
Cavaliers quarterback Bryce Perkins went 22 of 31 for 208 yards. He also had three touchdowns.
Jordan Ellis had 26 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown. Olamide Zaccheaus had 12 receptions for 100 yards and three touchdowns.
Gamecocks quarterback Jake Bentley went 17 of 39 for 218 yards. He also had two interceptions.
Rico Dowdle had six carries for 21 yards. Shi Smith had six receptions for 76 yards.
Virginia scored 14 points in the second half. Perkins hit Zaccheaus for a 10-yard touchdown reception.
Perkins also hit Zaccheaus for a 12-yard touchdown reception.
The Cavaliers led 14-0 at halftime. Perkins hit Zaccheaus for a six-yard touchdown reception. Ellis also scored on a nine-yard rushing touchdown.
