Athletes are targeted by thieves all the time. Boxer Amir Khan is the latest to, unfortunately, suffer at the hands of crimes.

While out with his wife Faryal Makhdoom on Monday night in London, Khan claims that he was robbed at gunpoint.

“Just had my watch taken off me at gunpoint in East London, Leyton,” Khan said in a Twitter post. “I crossed the road with Faryal, luckily, she was few steps behind me. 2 men ran to me, he asked for my watch whist having a gun pointed in my face. The main thing is we’re both safe.”

In a post in the London World, Khan and Faryal believe that they may have been “set up” by the robbers. Khan’s £72K watch was stolen in the crime.

The authorities have CCTV of the incident. In the video, two men can be seen getting out of a Mercedes before approaching the boxer.

“Seems like a setup to me, considering we didn’t even post where we were,” Makhdoom said to the London World. “It makes me sick to my stomach to known someone sitting in the restaurant was probably the one plotting this.”

The police are investigating the matter. They have released a statement in the case.

“A man aged in his 30s is alleged to have been approached by two males who threatened him with a firearm before stealing his watch and fleeing,” the statement read. “There were no reports of any shots fired or any injuries. Police responded and conducted an area search. At this very early stage, there have been no arrests.

“An investigation has begun and police are following a number of enquiries.”

The 35-year-old boxer calls Bolton, Lancashire, United Kingdom home. “King Khan” is 34-6 as a boxer.
