Northern Colorado parts with head coach Ed McCaffrey

Northern Colorado Bears have decided not to part ways with head coach Ed McCaffrey. The former NFL wide receiver was hired by the school in December 2019.

A search has begun for their new head coach.

“This is never an easy decision,” Northern Colorado Director of Athletics Darren Dunn said. “We appreciate all the work, time, and energy Coach McCaffrey has put into the program and we wish him the best in the future.”

McCaffrey was 6-16 in two seasons at the school. The team had a 4-12 record in the Big Sky Conference.

The Bears finished with a 3-8 record this season. They were 2-6 in conference play.

McCaffrey’s final game with the Bears came in a 45-21 loss to the Eastern Washington Eagles on November 19th.

The team began the season with a 2-2 record. Northern Colorado then lost five straight games. They went 1-1 in their last two games.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bears did not play in the fall of 2020. The school elected not to participate in the FCS spring season.
