ONE Championship fighter Iuri Lapicus has passed away. He was 27.
He succumbed to his injured after being in a motorcycle accident. He was injured in Milan, Italy.
“The ONE Championship team is heartbroken over the tragic passing of Iuri Lapicus,” ONE Championship said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones at this difficult time.”
Lapicus was in a coma for three days before his passing, according to reports. Milano Today is reporting that he crashed into a car before being transported to the hospital.
He was 14-2 in his MMA career. Four of his wins came via knockout. He also had ten submission wins.
The middleweight fighter lost his last bout before his death against Zebaztian Kadestam at ONE Championship on August 26th, 2022. He was knocked out in the first round.
Lapicus was on a three-fight winless streak. This included an overturned no contest against former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez in April 2021.
His last win came over Marat Gafurov on February 7th, 2020. He won via a first round rear-naked choke submission.
“Devastating news from Italy,” Sherdog.com European Editor Tudor Lenore said on Twitter. “One Championship fighter Iuri Lapicus lost his life in a car accident. He was 27. Iuri’s career took off after signing with One where he fought people like Eddie Alvarez, Christian Lee and Marat Gafurov. May he rest in peace.”
