Georgia Bulldogs head football coach Kirby Smart trolled ABC/ESPN following his team’s win against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night. The Bulldogs won 30-15 over the Longhorns in Austin, Texas.

The multi-time national championship-winning head coach was not happy with the referees either.

“Nobody gave us a chance,” Smart said. “Your whole network doubted us. Nobody believed us. And then they tried to rob us with calls in this place. And these guys are so resilient. You know what I mean? We talked about intent.”

Smart may have been hinting at a play with the Bulldogs leading 23-8 in the third quarter. That’s when a pass interference call was reversed.

Before this call was reversed, Longhorns fans began to throw bottles and cans onto the field. A lot of these bottles and cans are believed to come from the student section.

Referees do make mistakes during a game. It is common for them to throw a flag, and then eventually meet together to discuss the play further, before making a more definitive call on the play.

Often, after the group conversation, the referee would make it known that there was no foul on the play.

It is not clear if the fans throwing bottles and cans onto the field played a factor in their decision to reverse the call. While the officials may not have talked about it, Smart was not happy with the reversal of the call.

The Bulldogs were up 23-0 on the Longhorns before the top-ranked team in the land even scored. This was the second win ever for Georgia in the series.

“What was our intent when we walked on the field,” Smart asked. “Our intent was not to take pictures, not to do all the superstar stuff. Our intent was to eat. It was to come eat and be hungry. I’m not interested in all the bells in whistles. What I want is a team that fights their ass off and they did tonight.”

Head official Matt Loeffler, who was responsible for making the call, is the Owner and President of his family’s glass distribution company business in Texas. He has been running the company since 1991.
