The college football recruiting period began on Wednesday. And it can be an unexpected time for teams, as nothing is official until a player signs.
This means that there could be some games involved with the players and teams involved. Sometimes the player stays true to their verbal commitment. Other times, there can be games between a player and schools.
There was some drama with one particular player. 4-Star outside linebacker Tyler Lockhart claimed that he had flipped to Ole Miss, according to rivals.com and On3.com. Both media companies showed, according to Lockhart’s social media, that Lockhart had flipped from the Mississippi State Bulldogs to their arch rival.
However, the soon-to-be freshman actually never flipped his commitment. He actually signed a National Letter of Intent with the Bulldogs.
He joins a Bulldogs squad that struggled in 2024 under first-year head coach Jeff Lebby. Mississippi State was 2-10 and they were 0-8 within the Southeastern Conference.
The Rebels won their rivalry game on Black Friday. They won 26-14 over the Bulldogs at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi.
Ole Miss is in the mix for the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. They are 9-3 overall and were 5-3 within the SEC.
The six-foot-3, 200-pound player from Winona High School in Winona, Mississippi had been committed to the Bulldogs since September. Then, this drama happened.
He picked the Bulldogs over the Rebels, Auburn, and Alabama.
Lockhart was ranked 140th nationally. However, he was ranked as a top-16 player at his position, according to Hotty Toddy Recruiting.
The scouting site said that he was the fifth-best player in Mississippi.
