The UTSA Roadrunners blew out the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Monday afternoon. The Roadrunners won 44-15 over the Chanticleers in the Myrtle Beach Bowl at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina.
Despite the Chanticleers being the home team, they were listed as the “road” team for the game.
With the win, the Roadrunners improved to 7-6 overall. The Chanticleers fell to 6-7.
The Roadrunners scored the second most points in the game with the 44 points. In the inaugural game, the Appalachian State Mountaineers won 56-28 over the North Texas Mean Green on December 21st, 2020.
The 29-point win was the largest in the history of the Bowl game. It surpassed the 28-point win by the Mountaineers over the Mean Green.
This was the first time that these two teams played in the Bowl game. And it was the first time that they played against each other in a college football game.
Roadrunners quarterback Owen McCown went 23 of 30 for 254 yards. He had one touchdown pass and one interception.
Will Henderson III had five carries for 81 yards and one touchdown. David Amador II had seven receptions for 110 yards.
Chanticleers quarterback Tad Hudson went 17 of 26 for 173 yards. He had two touchdown passes.
This was Hudson’s first college football start. The Chancileers top two quarterbacks were in the transfer portal.
Brayden Bennett had 22 carries for 54 yards. Bryson Graves had two receptions for 53 yards and one touchdown.
The Roadrunners outscored the Chanticleers 23-15 in the second half. All of the Coastal Carolina points came in the fourth quarter.
Chris Carpenter returned a kickoff for a 98-yard return for a touchdown. Henderson III scored on a 51-yard rushing touchdown.
Tate Sandell made three field goals. He first made a 38-yard field goal. Then, he made a 27-yard field goal.
And finally, he made a 29-yard field goal.
Chanticleers’ Hudson hit Graves for a 50-yard touchdown reception. Hudson also hit Senika McKie for a nine-yard touchdown.
Hudson also hit Brooks Johnson to convert a two-point conversion.
The Roadrunners led 21-0 at halftime. Branden High Jr. scored on a 9-yard rushing touchdown.
McCown hit Patrick Overmeyer for a six-yard touchdown reception. McCown also scored on a 35-yard rushing touchdown.
