The South Florida Bulls have won their first Hawai’ian Bowl. They defeated the San Jose State Spartans 41-39 in 5 overtime at the Clarence T. C. Ching Athletics Complex in Honolulu, Hawai’i.
According to ESPN, this was the first-ever Bowl game to go five overtime.
This was the second straight day that a College Football Bowl game went to overtime. The Northern Illinois Huskies defeated the Fresno State Bulldogs 28-20 in Double Overtime in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho.

With the win, the Bulls improved to 7-6 overall. The Spartans fell to 7-6 under first-year head coach Ken Niumatalolo.
The Bulls have won back-to-back Bowl games under second-year head coach Alex Golesh. The team also won 45-0 over the Syracuse Orange in the Boca Raton Bowl in 2023.
Bulls quarterback Bryce Archie went 24 of 35 for 235 yards. He had one interception.
Kelley Joiner had 11 carries for 33 yards and one touchdown. Sean Atkins had 11 receptions for 104 yards.
Spartans quarterback Walker Eget went 33 of 58 for 280 yards. He had two touchdown passes and one interception.
Lamar Radcliffe had 15 carries for 65 yards and one touchdown. Matthew Coleman had 12 receptions for 119 yards and one touchdown.
The Bulls went up 41-39 in the fifth overtime when Bryce Archie hit Keshaun Singleton for the two-point conversion. The Spartans’ final two-point conversion failed.
Spartans quarterback Walter Eget hit Matthew Coleman for a two-point conversion in the third overtime to make it 39 apiece. Archie hit Payten Singletary to make it 39-37.
In the second overtime, both teams converted field goals. Bulls kicker John Cannon made a 36-yard field goal.
Spartans kicker Kyler Halvorsen made a 24-yard field goal.
In the first overtime, Eget hit Coleman to tie the game at 34. Bulls’ Ta’Ron Keith made a two-yard rushing touchdown to make it 34-27.
In the second half, the Spartans outscored the Bulls 17-6. Eget hit Jackson Canaan for a five-yard touchdown reception.
Lamar Radcliffe scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown. Halvorsen also made a 22-yard field goal.
Bulls’ Cannon made two field goals. He first made a 33-yard field goal.
He also made a 41-yard field goal.

The Bulls led 21-10 at halftime. Nay’Quan Wright scored on a three-yard rushing touchdown. Kelley Joiner also scored on a four-yard rushing touchdown.
Keith also scored on a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. This was the first Bulls kickoff return or punt return for a touchdown in a Bowl game.
Spartans’ Floyd Chalk IV scored on a three-yard rushing touchdown. Halvorsen scored on a 42-yard field goal.
