Miami Northwestern High School head football coach Teddy Bridgewater has signed with the Detroit Lions. The 32-year-old quarterback previously announced that this was the plan in an interview with the NFL Network before Christmas.

Bridgewater guided his alma mater to the State Championship earlier this month. He said he would sign with an NFL team then return to his alma mater in February.

Now, he will back up starting quarterback Jared Goff. Bridgewater will be a third string quarterback for the Lions, according to ESPN depth chart.

Hendon Hooker is the team’s backup quarterback.

The Lions have one of the best records in the NFL at 13-2. They are the best team in the NFC.

However, the Kansas City Chiefs have a 15-1 mark after winning their Christmas Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bridgewater also spent time with the Lions in 2023. He appeared in one game; however, did not throw a pass.

He had two carries for -2 yards.

Before signing with the Lions in 2023, Bridgewater bounced around the league. He played for the Minnesota Vikings from 2014 through 2017.

Then, he spent two seasons with the New Orleans Saints in 2018 and 2019. He also played for the Carolina Panthers in 2020.

He also played for the Denver Broncos in 2021 and the Miami Dolphins in 2022.
