According to reports, Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has ruptured his Achilles tendon for the second time in less than three months. He had surgery again on Thursday.

He initially ruptured his right Achilles tendon in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on October 20th. He had surgery after his first ruptured Achilles tendon, as well.

This was the second straight season that Watson suffered a season-ending injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. His 2025 season is now in jeopardy, according to the famous reporter.

A ruptured Achilles typically has a nine-month to one-year recovery time. He had surgery after his first torn Achilles in October and was back walking in December.

NFL.com reporter Kevin Patra posted on X that if Watson is not able to play during the 2025 season, he will have played just 19 games over the last five seasons. This would cover 85 potential regular season games.

On December 26th, Watson posted “back on my feet” on Instagram.

Following the Browns’ regular-season finale, General Manager Andrew Berry said that Watson suffered a setback. At the time, he was vague on how serious the setback was.

Now, we know that he ruptured his Achilles again.

This season, Watson started seven games. He was 2-5 in those starts.

Watson has gone 181 of 296 for 2,121 yards. He also had 13 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions.

When Watson signed with the Browns, he signed a five-year fully guaranteed contract. In December, the Browns announced that Watson and the team restricted his contract.

That meant that Watson was going to be part of their 2025 roster. Now, he is going to be on their injured list for much of the season — if not all of it.

The Browns may take a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The top two picks may be quarterbacks even though ESPN Draft expert Mel Kiper has Travis Hunter as the best overall player in the upcoming draft.

The Tennessee Titans — another quarterback-needy team — has the No. 1 overall pick.
