Philadelphia, Pa. — The modern-era Philadelphia Wings have won four straight games. The Wings defeated the Calgary Roughnecks 13-11 on Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Wings are now 4-1 on the season. They are the second-best team in the league behind the Buffalo Bandits, who, at press time, are 4-0.

“Keep looking forward. I mean, not to look too far ahead, but it doesn’t get any easier in this league, right?,” Wings star Mitch Jones said. “We’ve got a back-to-back against (the two-time) defending champs and a really good Vancouver team.

“Start with those two, obviously, but it doesn’t get any easier from here, so just keep looking forward to the next game and keep preparing ourselves and go from there.”

The loss dropped the Roughnecks to 2-2 on the season. They lost the only meeting with the Wings this season.

With the Wings down 10-9, Philadelphia scored four straight goals. This gave them a 13-10 lead. Curtis Dickson scored a goal with seconds remaining to make it 13-11.

The Wings outscored the Roughnecks 7-4 in the second half.

“Pretty much,” Wings head coach Ian Rubel said. “I mean we knew going into halftime both teams were going to kind of make adjustments. The game was tighter than I was hoping, for sure.

“I think we can tell that in that first half, we had a bit of rust to have in that layoff last week in the bye week. So I think we just needed that first half to kind of shake something off.”

The Roughnecks led 7-6 at halftime.

Jones led the Wings with five goals. He also had two assists.

“I mean, our offense, you know, coming back through there, lots of penalties,” Jones said of his five-performance game. “A bit of a choppy game, but we sometimes got to play for that fourth quarter and our shots were dropping at the end there for us.”

Rookie Brennan O’Neill and Joe Resetarits scored two goals apiece. Resetarits had five assists and O’Neill had one assist.

Blaze Riorden, Scott Dominey, Phil Caputo, and Holden Cattoni scored one goal. Cattoni also had five assists.

“When you have seven guys that I think, personally, any one of us can go off on any given night, I think it really spreads the floor out and balances everything well and things just start opening up for everyone,” Caputo said. “So we’re not a selfish group up there.

“If someone wants to score eight goals, they score eight goals. It doesn’t matter. We just want to win. So it’s an unselfish group up front.”

Cattoni’s goal was also his 200th of his NLL career. He scored his 200th goal against his former team.

“I just found out about that in the locker room after the game,” Cattoni said. “It’s cool. It means I’m getting older for sure, which is I guess a positive in that I’ve played a lot of games in the NLL now, but always good to hit milestones in your career.

“It’s a good feeling.”

Wings goalie Nick Damude received the win. He allowed the 11 goals and made 46 saves.

Curtis Dickson led the Roughnecks with four goals and two assists. Tanner Cook and Brayden Mayea scored goals apiece.

Cook and Mayea also had one assist apiece.

Jesse King, Tyler Pace, and Haiden Dickson also scored one goal. King had one assist, while Pace had five assists.

Roughnecks goaltender Cam MacLeod allowed 12 goals in the game. He also made 43 saves.
