“Disappointed to lose at home, honestly,” Union head coach Bradley Carnell said. “First and foremost, I’m really proud of the guys for the last couple of weeks, what they’ve put on. It’s been really impressive. And we’re going against a team that was very resilient on the day and came here to do a decent job and then it just happened. It was a tough day.
“We lose momentum at certain moments in the game and conceding (a goal right before) halftime was probably one of the killers. So the football Gods didn’t want us to go 4-0 or to compete in this game and unfortunately, we (got) the short end of the stick and we move on from there. Incredibly proud of this group and we wipe this one off and we go again next week.”
Inter Miami FC surpassed the Union with a win on Sunday night. They now have 10 points.
Nashville SC is now 2-1-1. The team is now fifth in the Eastern Conference with seven points.
Union goalkeeper Andre Blake celebrated his 300th appearance with the team before the contest.
“Football is a game of chess, so as I said before, it’s no secret what we’re doing, other teams are scouting us, so it’s going to get more difficult,” he said. “But again, the real teams find ways to win different ways and we’re going to have to go back, look and film, and we go from there.”
Following the game, Carnall and several players did not have anything good to say about the game referee. There were a lot of questionable calls in the game.
There were four yellow cards given out in the game. Two were given out on each team.
Patrick Yazbek and Edvard Tagseth received a yellow card for Nashville SC. Kai Wagner and Bruno Damiani received a yellow card for the Union.
Olwethu Makhanya received a red card in the 90th minute for throwing the ball in the face of a Nashville SC player near the sideline on an out-of-bounds play.
“I have nothing to say about that,” Carnell said about the officiating in the game.
Late in extra time, the Union had a chance to cut the lead to one. Quinn Sullivan took a penalty kick in the 110th minute.
Goalkeeper Joe Willis made a save. Moments later, as the rebound went to another Union player, he made another save.
Nashville SC’s Hany Mukhtar scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to make it 3-1. He was awarded a penalty kick after colliding with Union defender Jakob Glesnes in the box.
“It wasn’t good enough for me,” Jakob Glesnes said. “I was involved in all three of the goals and I should never make the PK (penalty kick) of it either. So I have to take learning from that and just raise my head again because it’s a new day and a new game on Saturday. So yeah, we have to work hard now into the next game against St. Louis and to change it up already there.”
In the first half, Nashville SC scored in the 15th minute when Sam Surridge scored to make it 1-1. Then right before halftime, Ahmad Qasem scored to make it 2-1.
“For sure, we’re going to take a look at everything and see where we can be better,” Blake said. “I don’t want to say too much now before looking at the tape, so we’ll watch some tape and we’ll have to keep our heads up and go again.”

The Union’s tally came from Jovan Lukić in the 33rd minute.
“I scored a goal that’s amazing, but I don’t feel like I didn’t score,” Lukić said. “You know, when you lose, it’s the same whether you score or not. For me, it’s like we lost the game and that’s the only important thing.
“I just want to win. If I score, of course, and win, that’s amazing, but we lost the game. So, the feeling is like I didn’t do nothing. So, I can’t be that happy because we lost this game.”
