Former boxing champion George Foreman passed away on Friday. He was 76.
An official cause of death has not been announced yet.

“Our hearts are broken,” George Foreman’s Instagram page said. “With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr., who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose. A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family.
“We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own.”
The legendary competitor was a two-time Heavyweight champion. He was also inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame.
Foreman is remembered for the Rumble in the Jungle with Muhammad Ali in 1974 in Congo. Ali won in an eighth-round knockout.
“Big George” had 81 boxing fights in his long career. He won 76 of those contests in the Heavyweight class.
Foreman won 68 bouts by knockout. He had just five losses in his career.
The Marshall, Texas native also won a gold medal during the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games.
His losses in his career came against Shannon Briggs, Tommy Morrison, Evander Holyfield, Jimmy Young, and Ali. Foreman was 40-0 before his first loss of his career to Ali by knockout on October 30th, 1974.
Outside of his boxing career, Foreman became very popular as an Entrepreneur for the George Foreman Grill.
The George Foreman Grill was launched in 1994. It has been in stores for the last 31 years.
