Glavinovich scores early in the Union’s 1-0 win over St. Louis City SC

Chester, Pa. — Philadelphia Union head coach Bradley Carnell got some revenge against his former employer. The Union won 1-0 against St. Louis City SC on Saturday night at Subaru Park.

Carnell was the first head coach in franchise history with St. Louis City SC. He was fired by the team in July 2014.

He then took over the Union in January 2025.

Due to the International window, many MLS soccer teams were without their top players, as they were on International duty. Yet, the MLS insisted on the teams play. The Union had five players on International duty.

According to the MLS Standings, the Union is back in first place in the Eastern Conference Standings with 12 points. The Union is now 4-1 overall.

The team improved to 2-1 in front of their loyal fans. The Union are also 2-0 on the road.

They have a 2-point advance over Charlotte FC, Inter Miami CF, Nashville SC, and the Chicago Fire FC are trailing behind. Those four teams all have 10 points.

Nashville SC defeated the Union 3-1 on FOX on Sunday, March 16th.

With the loss, St. Louis City SC is now fifth in the Western Conference. The team has 8 points after going 2-1-2.

Following the game, there was an incident with Carnell and his former player João Klauss. St. Louis City SC players had to hold him back before the two eventually were separated.

Carnell would not talk about the incident.

“No, I’m good, thank you,” he said.

The Union scored early in the 8th minute off of a corner kick. Ian Glavinovich scored off a header.

Galvinovich said post-game that this was his first career goal.
There were seven yellow cards given out in the game. A red card was also given out.

Saint Louis City SC received four yellow cards. In the 66th minute, Eduard Löwen, one of their best players, also received a red card.

Alfredo Morales picked up a yellow card in the 85th minute. Löwen also received a yellow card during the 55th minute.

Christopher Durkin received a yellow card during the 35th minute. Kyle Hiebert also had a yellow card in the 19th minute.

Union goalkeeper Andrew Rick picked up a yellow card in the 81st minute. Olivier Mbaizo received a yellow card in the 58th minute.

Glavinovich received a yellow card in the 26th minute.

The Union are on the road in their next matchup. The team will play Lionel Messi and Inter Miami on March 29th at 7:30 pm EST.

Saint Louis City SC will be home in their next game. They play the second-best team, Austin FC, on Sunday, March 30th, at 2:15 pm local time at Energizer Park.
