According to the Texas High School Rodeo Association Region 7, Rodeo Cowboy Roy Cooper has passed away. His age was not provided.
An official cause of death has not been determined yet.

“Roy Cooper has gone to Heaven tonight,” the post said. “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of Roy Cooper. He died tragically in a house fire. Roy wasn’t just a legend in the arena — he was a legend in life. He inspired so many with his strength, grit, and heart. Whether you knew him personally or admired him from afar, you knew he was someone special. His love for rodeo, family, and friends ran deep, and he carried that love with quite pride and unmatched character.

Cooper was a legend in the Rodeo community. He had competed in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) for more than twenty years.
In 1976, Cooper was named the PRCA Rookie of the Year. In 1976, then from 1980 through 1984, he was the PRCA calf-roping world champion.
He was the PRCA steer-roping world champion in 1983. He also was named the 1983 all-round world champion.
Cooper won the 1992 PRCA Texas Circuit calf-roping champion.

He was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1979 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was part of the Hall’s inaugural class.
Cooper was nicknamed ‘Super Looper’ due to his roping abilities.
