Chester, Pa. — The Philadelphia Union believed they should have won this game. However, in the record books, it’s going to go down as a draw.

With the draw, each team picked up a point. The Crew are currently in second place in the Eastern Conference with 25 points.

Despite a tie at 25 points with FC Cincinnati, the Crew are listed as the second-best team in the conference right now.

The Union are currently third with 23 points. This was just their second tie/draw of the season.

Philadelphia is 7-3-2 for the 23 points. The Crew are 7-1-4. FC Cincinnati are 8-3-1.

This was an emotional game before the contest as former Union star Daniel Gazdag returned to the area. Gazdag was traded to the Crew in April for $4 million. The Union may receive an additional $500,000 if certain circumstances are reached.

Gazdag played for the Union from 2021 through the 2025 season. He was the team’s all-time leading scorer with 57 goals through all competitions.

Union head coach Bradley Carnell refused to comment on what’s going on with Union star goaltender Andre Blake. With Blake out of the lineup, Carnell has turned to young goaltender Andrew Rick.

The Union made no excuses for their tough schedule in one week. While the Crew had some time off between their two Saturday games, the Union did not have down time. They also played in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night after a win last Saturday.

Instead of that game ending in regulation, the Union — which had a mixture of Union II and Union players playing — escaped with a penalty kicks win over Indy Eleven.

According to the stats, the Union had 16 shots. However, six shots were on target.

The Crew had 10 shots. Yet, three shots were on target.

The Union had six off-sides calls against them, including one that eliminated a goal.

The Crew held possession for 70% of the time. The Union held possession for 30% of the time.

The Crew received two yellow cards. Both were in the second half.

Evgen Cheberko received a yellow card in the 55th minute. Then, in the 84th minute, Malte Amundsen also received a yellow card.

Tai Baribo opened the scoring to give the Union a 1-0 lead. In the 61st minute, the Crew tied the game with an equalizer from Max Arfsten.

Three minutes later, Francis “Frankie” Westfield scored with a rocket shot into the back of the next in the 64th minute. This was Westfield’s first MLS goal.

Then, in the final moments of the game, the Crew scored to tie the game again. In the 90+3 minute, Sean Zawadzki scored to make it 2-2.
