The New York Giants are expected to sit 2025 first round quarterback Jaxson Dart during the 2025 season. This is not surprising as the team has two veteran quarterbacks ahead of him.

Right now, it’s not clear if Dart will be the team’s third quarterback. Or the fourth quarterback if they choose to keep Tommy DeVito.

The Giants starting quarterback will be determined by either Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston. Both quarterbacks signed with the Giants as free agents this off-season.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the Giants will lean on these veteran signal callers to mentor Dart until he is ready to go. Giants GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have their jobs on the line if the Giants struggle once again in 2025.

It depends on the situation, but some rookie quarterbacks have played right away and excelled like C.J. Stroud did with the Houston Texans. However, some teams have decided to sit their rookie quarterback like the Green Bay Packers did with Jordan Love a few years ago.

The Giants are hoping that Dart, who was taken late in the first round, will turn out to be a franchise signal-caller. He came out of Ole Miss, the same school that Giants legend Eli Manning went to before he was the 2004 No. 1 overall draft pick.

In his final season with the Rebels, Dart went 276 of 398 for 4,279 yards in 13 games. Dart threw 29 touchdown passes and six interceptions.

The Giants have not had a quarterback throw for 4,000 (or more) passing yards in a season since 2018, the final season of Manning. He threw for 4,299 yards.

Since that time, the most yards that a quarterback threw for was 3,027 during the 2019 season by Daniel Jones. In 2022, former quarterback Jones threw for 3,205 yards.

The 36-year-old Wilson was a third-round draft pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He went 6-5 in 11 starts with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Wilson went 214 of 336 for 2,482 yards. He had 16 touchdown passes and five interceptions.

The 31-year-old Winston was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He went 2-5 as a starter for the Cleveland Browns in 2024.

Winston went 181 of 296 for 2,121 yards. He had 13 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions.
