App State wins the inaugural Sun Belt Conference Football Championship

The Appalachian State Mountaineers defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers won 30-19 at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, North Carolina.

The Mountaineers also won the inaugural Sun Belt Conference Football Championship. Appalachian State also received a Belt for winning the conference.

Appalachian State improved to 10-2 on the season. Louisiana fell to 7-6.

Mountaineers quarterback Zac Thomas went 6 of 13 for 75 yards.

Darrynton Evans led the backs with 17 carries for 111 yards. Corey Sutton led the receivers with two receptions for 23 yards.

Ragin’ Cajuns quarterback Andre Nunez went 10 of 21 for 85 yards. He also had two interceptions.

Trey Ragas had 16 carries for 101 yards. Ja’Marcus Bradley had four receptions for 41 yards.

The Mountaineers outscored the Ragin’ Cajuns 16-13 after halftime. Thomas scored on a 35-yard rushing touchdown.

Chandler Staton also made three field goals.

Louisiana’s Nunez scored an eight-yard rushing touchdown. Kyle Pfau also made two field goals.

Appalachian State led 14-6 at halftime. Thomas scored a 25-yard rushing touchdown. Marcus Williams also scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown.

Pfau scored two field goals in the first half for the Ragin’ Cajuns.
