According to NHRA Division 2, drag racer Michael “Mickey” Whaley died on Wednesday. He was 50 years old.
The cause of death is unknown at this time. The Southeast Division announced his death in a Facebook post.
“Mickey’s contagious smile in the staging lanes will be forever remembered,” Bo Butner and Randi Lyn Shipp wrote in an expression of sympathy on the funeral home’s website. “Rest in peace our friend. Love always, Bo Butner and Randi Lyn Shipp.”

According to the obituary, Whaley died at home. The funeral will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, June 30th at the Tanglewood Church of God with visitation to follow.

The graveside will be held on Monday, July 1st, at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
