The Edinburg High School Bobcats won last night’s high school football game in Edinburg, Texas. However, just hours later, the game has been forfeited.

It was all due to a bonehead incident by one player. Emmanuel Duron was ejected for an unsportsmanlike penalty.

Following the ejection, Duron elected to run back onto the field. He then did the unthinkable, as he attacked the referee.

Fred Gracia — the referee — was not able to finish the game. The officials were short-handed for the rest of the game.

Gracia reportedly suffered a potential concussion and shoulder injury.

With the forfeit, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School Bears — who was Edinburg’s opponent last night — will move on to the playoffs.

“The district has decided to remove the Edinburg High School football team from the playoffs after an unexpected incident involving a student that occurred during a football game on December 3, 2020,” the Edinburg School District said in a statement. “We extend a sincere apology to the referee and his family. On behalf of the Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees and administration, we apologize to the athletes, staff, and our school community. We will take the appropriate disciplinary action once we understand the facts and circumstances underlining this incident. The district takes these matters very seriously; however, we cannot comment further on a pending investigation.”

With the forfeit, Edinburg’s season is over. The players can get frustrated all they want when their season is over. All because of one person’s decision.
