Former NFL player Pete Lammons Jr. has been announced as the fisherman, who passed away on Thursday. He was 77.
An official cause of death has not been announced yet.
Lammons Jr. fell off of the boat that he was in during the Major League Fishing Toyota Series event near the San Augustine Park area on Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Texas. He was a co-angler during the event.

At 10:05 am local time, the authorities received the call that a man had gone overboard. Several game wardens were able to recover his body with sonar equipment.
Major League Fishing said that an autopsy has been requested. Lammons Jr. was a co-angler at numerous MLF events.
This was his 57th event.
The former Texas Longhorns tight end was drafted into the NFL by the New York Jets in the 1966 NFL Draft. He was a 14th round draft pick.
He played for the Jets from 1966 through 1971. He then played the 1972 season with the Green Bay Packers.

Lammons Jr. was part of the Super Bowl III win when the Jets defeated the Baltimore Colts, 16-7, at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida in January 1969. As an NFL player, he appeared in 95 games, including 83 starts.
He had 185 receptions for 2,364 yards and 14 touchdowns.
