The initial 2021 College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night. There was a surprise in the rankings.

The Cincinnati Bearcats are listed as the No. 2 team in the Associated Press poll. However, the CFP committee has decided that the Bearcats are not better than sixth in the rankings.

The Georgia Bulldogs were the top-ranked team. The Bulldogs received the top spot after their dismantling of the Florida Gators on Saturday at TIAA Field in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Bulldogs are 8-0 on the season. They host the Missouri Tigers on Saturday.

The No. 2 ranking belongs to the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Southeastern Conference has the top two rankings in this Week 10 announcement.

The Crimson Tide has won 7-1 this season. The team has won two straight games after losing to the Texas A&M Aggies on October 9th.

The Michigan State Spartans are the third-best team in this ranking. The Spartans are 8-0.

The team is coming into this weekend’s game after a big win over the previously undefeated Michigan Wolverines last Saturday. The Spartans are on the road this weekend against the Purdue Boilermakers.

The Oregon Ducks are the lone Western team in the ranking. The Ducks come in with the fourth ranking.

Oregon has won three straight games since their October 2nd loss to the Stanford Cardinal. The Ducks travel to Seattle, Washington on Saturday night to play the Washington Huskies on ABC.

The first two teams on the outside looking in are the Ohio State Buckeyes and the aforementioned Bearcats.

The Buckeyes were defeated by the Ducks in Week 2 on September 11th in a 35-28 loss. Since the loss, Ohio State has won six straight games.

Ohio State is on the road this weekend against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The Bearcats are 8-0 on the season. Their best win came on October 2nd in a 24-13 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This is the Fighting Irish’s lone loss, as they are 7-1 on the season.

Cincinnati has only played two teams, who have a winning record. Plus, one of their wins is over an FCS school in the Murray State Racers.

Besides the Fighting Irish win, the Bearcats also defeated the UCF Knights. The Florida-based team has a 5-3 record.

The rest of the Bearcats schedule has a combined 15-33 record.
