The Wisconsin Badgers have hired their next head football coach. And no, Jim Leonhard did not get the job.
Many thought that Leonhard would receive the full-time job at the end of the regular season. He went 4-3 as the interim head coach after replacing Paul Chryst.
Director of Athletic Chris McIntosh has decided to hire Luke Fickell. The sides finalized an agreement on Sunday.

Fickell had been the Cincinnati Bearcats head coach since 2017. He is 63-25 as a head coach with the Bearcats.
The record also indicates a 6-7 record as the Ohio State Buckeyes interim head coach in 2011. Then-Buckeyes head coach Jim Tressel was facing a five-game suspension due to a recruiting scandal to begin the season.
Tressel decided to step down in May 2011. Ohio State named Fickell their interim head coach for the 2011 season.
He was passed over by Urban Meyer for the 2012 season. Fickell remained on Meyer’s staff before leaving on December 2016 for the Cincinnati job.
This season, Fickell guided the Bearcats to a 9-3 record. This came one season after he guided Cincinnati to their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.
They were the first non-Power 5 team to appear in the CPF. Ultimately, they were defeated 27-6 in the Cotton Bowl Classic by the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Fickell is taking over a program that went 6-6 this season.
The Bearcats have named Kerry Coombs as their interim head coach. He had served as their special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach.
Coombs has never been a college head coach. In 16 seasons, he went 161-34 as the Colerain High School football head coach from 1991 through 2006.
He also spent two seasons as the Loveland High School football coach in 1989 and 1990.
