The Los Angeles Chargers have also fired general manager Tom Telesco. He had been with the organization since 2013 before his departure.
Telesco’s firing comes at the same time as the Chargers cleaned house. The team also fired head coach Brandon Staley on Friday.
“I want to thank Tom (Telesco) and Brandon for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism, and wish both them and their great families nothing but the best,” Chargers Owner and Chairman of the Board Dean Spanos said. “These decisions are never easy, nor are they something I take lightly — especially when you consider the number of people they impact. We are clearly not where we expect to be, however, and we need (a) new vision. Doing nothing in the name of continuity was not a risk I was willing to take. Our fans have stood strong through so many ups and downs and close games. They deserve more.

“Frankly, they’ve earned more. Building and maintaining a championship-caliber program remains our ultimate goal. And reimagining how we achieve that goal begins today.”
The Chargers made these moves following a horrible performance on Thursday Night Football. The team gave up 63 points in a 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The 63 points are the most points scored ever by a Raiders team.
The 51-year-old Telesco saw something in Staley to give the young coach his first head coaching job in 2021. Before hiring Staley, it was believed that Telesco would hire Brian Daboll as his head coach.
Telesco and Daboll have a close friendship. However, Daboll eventually received his first head coaching opportunity with the New York Giants.

Before being hired as the Chargers GM, Telesco worked for the Indianapolis Colts from 1998 through 2012 in a variety of roles. His last role was their Vice President of Football Operations in 2012.
He also spent three seasons with the Carolina Panthers from 1995 through 1997. He began his career with the Buffalo Bills as an intern from 1991 through 1994.
