The Boston Bruins have struck a deal with restricted free agent goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman before the start of the season. Swayman is now signed for the long term.

He has agreed to an eight-year, $66 million deal. It has an $8.25 million average.

It is the fifth highest paid deal for goalies in the league. Recently, his agent denied a report that the Bruins offered his client $64 million.

This extended deal will take Swayman through the 2032 season. It also ended a prolonged standoff between the two sides.

“I know that it will take care of itself with time, and all I can do is control how I’m going to be a better goalie for the Boston Bruins this year,” Swayman said last month at the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. “So, that’s all I’m focused on. And I know, again, it will work out, and I couldn’t be happier to be a Bruin.”

Swayman was their fourth round draft pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. He has spent the last four seasons with the team.

Swayman went 25-10-8 in 43 games last season. He had a .916 save percentage.

And he had a 2.53 goals against average. He also played in a career-high 2,566 minutes in the net.

He is projected to be the Bruins starter this season. Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi are listed as his backups, according to CBS Sports.

Swayman split time with Linus Ullmark last season. However, this past June, he was traded to the Ottawa Senators for a package that included Korpisalo.

The past three seasons, Swayman has improved his wins total each season. He had 23 wins during the 2021-22 season.

Then, during the 2022-23 season, Swayman had 24 wins. And he had the aforementioned mentioned 25 wins during the 2023-24 season.

The Bruins will hope that Swayman could break the 30-win mark this season.
