Hailie Deegan has a new racing home. Deegan will not be returning to stock car racing in 2025.

Instead, the young driver will test her skills in open-wheel racing. Deegan has been announced as an IndyCar NXT driver with HMD Motorsports.

“It’s been hard keeping this one a secret… Beyond excited to announce that I’ll be racing @indynxt with @hmdmotorsports in 2025 🙌,” Deegan said in an Instagram post. “I can’t wait for this new venture on this side of motorsports. Time to get to work!”

She will be the fifth driver for the team. Her teammates will be Caio Collet, Josh Pierson, Tommy Smith, and Bryce Aron.

“I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to working with a proven program in HMD Motorsports,” Deegan said. “I have much to learn, but I am ready to go. The team brings a wealth of knowledge for me to pull from, and I look forward to soaking up as much of that as possible before my race debut next March in St. Petersburg.”

This will be her first opportunity in an open-wheel car. After leaving her Xfinity Series ride, she has tried her hand at several different types of Motorsports, including RallyCars.

She has been testing in an open-wheel car. And will be competing in an open wheel race later this month at the Formula Regional Americas event at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas.

“Hailie, and especially the Deegan name, are huge in motorsports, and we welcome them to the HMD Motorsports family,” HMD Team President Mike Maurini said. “Hailie has already been out to the shop and is taking the move to open-wheel racing seriously. She is looking for a place in the Indianapolis area to be immersed with the team and is already working with her engineer.

“We want to make sure she and all the other HMD Motorsports drivers are as ready as possible for every on-track session.”

She was competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2024, where she struggled. This ultimately led her to lose her ride following the Chicago Street race.
