Utes name Bajakian interim OC/QB coach

The Utah Utes have named Mike Bajakian as their interim offensive coordinator on Monday. Former offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig stepped down on Sunday night.

Ludwig stepped down following the Utes’ three-game losing streak. Utah is 4-3 overall; however, they are just 1-3 in the Big 12 Conference.

His first game as interim offensive coordinator will be on Saturday against the Houston Cougars. The game will be played at 7 pm EST at TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Bajakian is in his first season with the Utes. He began the season as an offensive analyst.

Now, he’ll serve as interim offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

He has served as offensive coordinator with numerous teams. He was last the offensive coordinator with the Northwestern Wildcats from 2020 through 2023.

Before becoming the Wildcats offensive coordinator, he also served as the Boston College Eagles offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2019. Bajakian was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Tennessee Volunteers in 2013 and 2014.

He was the Cincinnati Bearcats offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2010 through 2012. He also served as the Central Michigan Chippewas offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2007 through 2009.

Bajakian has also served as a coach in the NFL. He was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks coach from 2015 through 2018. He previously coached with the Chicago Bears from 2004 through 2006 as their offensive quality control coach.

This veteran coach has also coached with the Michigan Wolverines, Sacred Heart Pioneers, and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. He began his coaching career at the high school level with the Delbarton School in New Jersey in 1996 and 1997 as their quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator.
