The Auburn Tigers men’s basketball team had to make a trip back to Auburn, Alabama. There was reported horse playing on the plane.
As a result, the flight crew decided to divert the plane back to the home airport.
“Auburn plane returned back home due to horseplay between players on the flight that could have escalated into a fight, source told @TheFieldOf68,” Jeff Goodman said on X. “Auburn was about 45 minutes en route and had to return home. Source said they are expected to take another plane to Houston later tonight.
“Tigers play Houston tomorrow night.”
At press time, it is not clear if the players involved in the incident will face any disciplinary action. The school has not said whether that will be the cause when this article was posted.
According to flight time calculator, the flight, if they’re using these airports, from Auburn University Regional Airport to George Bush Intercontinental Airport is an hour and 41 minutes.
The Tigers men’s basketball X account said “liftoff” as the players were boarding the plane. Their athletic department website has not commented on the matter.
The No. 11 Tigers play the No. 4 Cougars on Saturday night at 9:30 pm on ESPNU.
Both teams bring a 1-0 record into the contest.
