The Boston Red Sox have signed free agent pitcher Walker Buehler. He has agreed to a one-year deal.
Buehler will be paid $21.05 million for the 2025 season.
The veteran pitcher threw the final pitch of the 2024 World Series. He got an out as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees.
According to FanGraphs, Buehler is projected to be the team’s fifth starter. He joins the rotation that is expected to include Garrett Crochet, Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and Buehler.
He is the second starter, who was added this month. The Red Sox acquired Crochet in a trade with the Chicago White Sox.
Crochet is expected to be team’s ace of the rotation.
The 30-year-old spent his entire career with the Dodgers before joining the Red Sox. The Lexington, Kentucky native pitched for the Dodgers from 2017 through 2022, and again in 2024.
He did miss the 2023 season as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. After recovering, Buehler returned to the team this season.
He appeared in 12 regular season games. Buehler went 6-3 in those games.
He also had one complete game and one shutout.
Buehler had a 4.02 ERA in 65 innings. He allowed 30 runs (29 earned runs) on 67 hits, including giving up eight home runs.
