Alex Laughlin has announced his grandfather has passed away

Race car driver Alex Laughlin has been preparing for the NHRA Bristol national event. However, due to a family emergency, that has impacted his preparations.

Laughlin made an emergency trip to Texas before coming back to Tennessee for the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tennessee.

“This morning, my grandfather passed away with my mom, my aunt, and my grandmother there by his side,” Laughlin said in a social media post. “He was a SGT in the Army, an absolute master woodworker, built guitars, mathmetitian (he meant mathematician), and (an) electrician.

“Cassie and I rushed home when we heard he wasn’t well because we thought it may be the last time we saw him. We sat with him early yesterday morning and shared our love. I’ll be forever thankful for those last moments together. He was a great man and lived a long, great life.”

Laughlin shared on his social media that he missed Q1 due to this emergency. He made it back to Tennessee in time for Q2; however, it was impacted by rain.

The Texan will make his first run during the third qualifying session. At press time, according to dragracecentral.com, NHRA officials are attempting to get racing underway on the track today following a track drying process.

We do not know how long that will take. If Laughlin cannot get in any runs, it may cause him to miss the event.

According to the NHRA entry registry site, there are 21 Pro Mods on the property. However, only 16 of them will make it into the eliminations.
