The Seattle Storm has signed WNBA leading scorer Jewell Loyd to a contract extension. It is a multi-year extension.
The team did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement.
Loyd has stepped up this season. She is now the face of the franchise that previously belonged to Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird.

Bird previously retired. Stewart previously signed with the New York Liberty in free agency.
“It’s been special for Seattle to witness Jewell compete for championships and rise to be one of the best in the game,” Storm President and CEO Alisha Valavanis said in a statement. “She is a franchise player, and we are excited to continue to build our future around her.”
Loyd’s extension comes right before the end of the regular season. The team has one game left in their regular season.
This season, Loyd set the franchise record for points scored in a season. She is averaging 24.6 points per game.
It is a career-best scoring output for Loyd, who can add to this number in her season finale against the Los Angeles Sparks.

This season, she has scored at least 30 points in 12 contests. She also had a 41-point performance against the Minnesota Lynx in June.
The 29-year-old has played her entire career with the Storm. She was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft.
With the team, she has been a part of two WNBA Championship teams. However, this season, the team is considered to be in a rebuilding phase.
“This has been a special year for Jewell and I’m excited it caps off with a commitment to continue to build her legacy in Seattle,” Seattle coach Noelle Quinn said.
